inet-logistics and GEHE Pharma Handel successfully conclude joint pilot project for RFID tracking of consignments

(03/18/2008) inet-logistics GmbH and GEHE Pharma Handel GmbH, a subsidiary of Celesio AG, have just completed a successful joint project involving the use of RFID. This has provided the basis for a new service in the active monitoring of sensitive consignments in transit by means of RFID and GSM tracking.

At the heart of the project is active and constant monitoring of temperature and tracking for the transport of pharmaceutical products in order to assure optimum product quality and avoid losses in transit. The service also includes the monitoring of UV-sensitive and moisture-sensitive items by means of appropriate sensors. The logistics-server® standard software solution from inet-logistics will play a central role in the transmission, visualisation and processing of despatch details as well as data on temperature, UV light levels, ambient moisture and location. All relevant data is instantly available via the logistics-server® software solution in user-friendly, real-time display.

"This means that when we despatch temperature-sensitive, UV-sensitive and moisture-sensitive items, we can access up-to-the-minute track-and-trace information at any time we like," explains Thorsten Ryl, Technical Project Manager at GEHE Pharma Handel GmbH. "This has been a convincing practical demonstration of the performance and reliability of inet-logistics' tried and tested logistics-server® as a central platform exploiting the full potential of modern technologies such as RFID and GSM. We are sure that the uninterrupted monitoring of sensitive consignments in transit is going to make a valuable contribution to improving the safety of pharmaceutical products."
