inet TMS supports transportation management of Kraft Foods Europe
inet has been chosen by Kraft Foods Europe to help streamline logistical business processes for all subsidiaries of Kraft Foods Europe. As part of this effort, the areas of transportation, freight cost and container management have been optimized across the entire supply chain network thanks to inet Transport Management System (inet TMS) which allows Kraft Foods’ supply chain partners in Europe to quickly and easily exchange information.
03/01/2010 Transportation scheduling and load building for all inbound shipments in Europe, including subsequent order placement with the service provider, have been handled by the inet TMS since early 2008. Transportation orders are compiled and assigned to service providers via a standardized workflow on the basis of predefined rules such as routes, service providers and truck types. One of the solution’s special features is the information flow for both the consignor and consignee: key information regarding incoming and outgoing shipments is available via the internet prior to its actual shipment. Both the consignor and consignee are able to view which shipments will be collected or delivered, and when and where they were collected or delivered. This in turn vastly improves the transparency and security of the entire planning process.
Freight Cost Management, which is one solution of the inet TMS, then uses the transportation data and predefined freight rates to determine the freight costs. If required, dynamic spot sourcing of transport capacities can be carried out easily via the Transportation Management System. The entire process of freight cost settlement is conducted via the inet TMS, likewise any claims against associated service providers. Standardized interfaces support the electronic entry of freight costs into the Kraft Foods ERP systems.
Within the context of the project, the inet solution for Container Management was also implemented at 100 Kraft Foods locations spanning 20 European countries in Europe. The warehouses transmit the container movements to the inet TMS where they are then booked onto the respective accounts. Exchange processes with logistics service providers for multi-trip pallets such as the Europallet are electronically transmitted and mapped in similar fashion. The invoice verification and clearing process is supported by a fully automatic calculation of rental and single-use fees carried out in the inet TMS.
