Multi Parcel Shipping at Medartis

The globally renowned medical device company Medartis chose the module Multi Parcel Shipping by inet-logistics for the successful cooperation with its parcel and express shipment service providers.

02/08/2010 The company is headquartered in Basel, Switzerland and is specialized in technical high-precision implants for surgical fixation of bone fractures and osteotomies. Due to high process costs for the assignment of parcel and express shipment service providers, as well as the time-consuming preparation of the parcels for them, a transportation management system was required for optimization.

Medartis thus chose the module Multi Parcel Shipping of the inet Transportation Management Systems (TMS). In the future, the system will be used used to assign the parcel and express shipment service providers, at the moment UPS and Fedex. Among the functionalities the print of labels and loading lists is included, which are certified by the providers themselves. The software is being used currently at Medartis Germany, Switzerland and the USA. The respective transportation orders are imported directly from the SAP system. Hence, Medartis benefits from frictionless communication between its SAP system and the assignment of the service providers.
Moreover, cost savings evolve because the providers need not place their labels anew any longer since the consignments are already provided with the appropriate labels specific to each service provider.

In order to guarantee maximum transparency the shipment status information is available in real-time for the employees and for costumers, too. This is enabled by a direct link out of the SAP system into the TMS, where the providers themselves feed back the track & trace infor-mation.

Another special advantage resulting from the use of the Multi Parcel Shipping module is the high flexibility it provides regarding the selection of service providers. The integration of additional or other parcel and express shipment service providers is possible at all times and with little effort thanks to the inet module.
