The utilization of the RFID technology enables a strict and real-time shipment tracking

(W+S 02.2006) The pilot project which was completed by the middle of November 2005 and which the Austrian software house inet-logistics had carried out together with the Vorarlberg Institute VResearch and the international logistics enterprise Gebrüder Weiss, examined the possibilities and limits of RFID-technology in detail.

The focus of the project was to evaluate and develop products which are ready for the market and to create an integrated solution for the continuous shipment tracking in cross-company logistics chains. The technology solves numerous problems which occur within logistics processes and which normally make the comprehensive process surveillance within an acceptable budget frame nearly impossible.

The results of the pilot project prove that RFID-data have a much better quality and are more up-to-date when it comes to the shipment tracking in cross-company logistics processes. Furthermore, data can be entered with far less effort than with the traditional approaches.
