Pilot project examines practical feasibility of RFID in transport processes across companies
(RFID im Blick 02.2006) In order to track shipments during transports across companies in a reliable manner, new solutions are needed. Apart from the suitable, efficient technology for the entering of shipment and transaction data it is also necessary to implement a uniform platform for the collection, administration and processing of transport data. Only in this way all partners of the supply chain can get informed in the same way and in real time about the transport status.
This basic insight was the point of departure for a one-year pilot project which was completed by the middle of November 2005 and which the Austrian software house inet-logistics carried out together with the Vorarlberg Institute VResearch and the international logistics enterprise Gebrüder Weiss. The objectives included the optimisation of the supply chain by means of auto-ID-systems, the evaluation and development of products which are ready for the market and the creation of an integrated solution for the continuous shipment tracking.
