Flow of Information Closes Supply Chain

Magna Steyr. New IT solution optimizes transport management

(Industrieanzeiger 05.2006) The Austrian Magna Steyr Automotive Engineering redesigned its transport management and introduced a continuous IT-solution. At the production launch of the Saab9-3 convertible and the BMW X3 in the year 2003 Magna Steyr Automotive Engineering AG & Co. KG, Graz, revised and harmonised its processes. After that an integrated software solution, which is based on the solution suite logistics-server® by inet-logistics, was developed together with the software provider inet-logistics and 4Flow as well as with the consortium manager Nexolab.

Today the relevant information, as for instance from the loading device management, flow into the transport planning and monitoring at Magna Steyr and enable a transport structure on the basis of actual demand. Transport and process costs get reduced through the automation and linking-up of the transport and loading device management. "Thus we were able to reach the economically advantageous objectives which we had defined at the beginning of the project earlier than expected," rejoices Stefan Lasser, responsible project manager at Magna Steyr. "The integration of transport management, loading device management and freight cost clearing is an important step in order to optimise the supply chain continuously," explains Werle. The inet-boss feels certain: "Further developments such as the supplier integration into the awarding of contracts are decisive for the future." Only if all logistics partners can access uniform information the supply chain within the transport management across companies can really get closed.
