Efficient Loading Device Management at the Symposium Logistics

(MM-Maschinenmarkt 06.2006) 50 participants attended the "Symposium of the Kühne-Institute for logistics at the University St. Gallen" in Stuttgart in order to discuss the topic loading device management. Already the first lecture by Oswald Werle, CEO of inet-logistics GmbH, Wolfurt/Austria, showed how a successful loading device management may look. At Magna Steyr, for example, a new integrated transport management was introduced with the help of which freight costs have been reduced by 15 percent. The introduction became necessary mainly because the rising production volume naturally caused a much higher freight volume. While in 2003 just under 100,000 vehicles were produced at Magna Steyr, in 2005 it was already nearly 250,000.

For this reason the company works by now with an Online loading device management which is well suited for the inventory management, the scheduling and status requests. Already 400 out of 2000 companies which work together with Magna Steyr balance their stocks via Internet. Consequently roughly 4 million transactions are carried out every year and the Internet has proven thereby to be "trouble-free and recommendable," says Werle praisingly.
