By using the logistics-server from inet-logistics transport scheduling and freight cost management are supported

(Distribution 02.2007) The larger a company, the more complex its logistics processes. Beginning with the procurement and the monitoring of internal processes up to the delivery of the finished goods everything should run smoothly - as quickly as possible and without any errors. What used to be a paper chaos nowadays gets completed at the computer with as little paper as possible. A suitable software supports the optimisation of processes. For this reason ThyssenKrupp Materials Europe (TKME), for example, decided to implement the software logistics-server by inet-logistics - first at its German locations, then in entire Europe.

The Austrian software smithy, which is specialised in IT-systems for logistics processes, thus offers a web-based and modularly designed package which enables you, for example, to manage transports and plan routes. "At the same time it is possible to operate at full capacity and reduce transport costs," says Markus Krüger, Head of Key Account Management and Marketing at inet-logistics.

TKME also decided to manage its freight costs via the logistics-server. In addition to the automatic issuing of invoices the systems also generates credit notes and documents all transactions. Loading device stocks can also be watched closely by means of the logistics-server because data are saved in the system which tell you about the whereabouts of loading devices at all times. Furthermore, it is stored as well in which condition the loading devices are and whether the company has to have them cleaned or repaired.

In addition, inet-logistics provides a so-called Shipment Localisation Kit (SLK), a solution which allows for the complete monitoring of the cold chain. SLK makes use of RFID-transponders which are attached to the packaging of the goods. "The best thing about it is that is it possible to track all routes precisely via Google-Earth," says Krüger from inet-logistics. Meanwhile TKME benefits from the logistics-server above all when it comes to the shipment formation and transport scheduling. Dr. Volker Paetz, director for Logistics and Supply Chain at TKME, expresses his praise for the logistics-server: "We decided to use a standard software which can be implemented speedily."
