Without sophisticated software, transportation planning isn’t going to work anymore
(Die Presse 03.2007) Cost pressure, more stringent environmental restrictions and the EU-regulations of 2005 which stipulate the complete tracking of animal feed and food, constantly create new logistic challenges for transport companies and retailers. Empty runs have to get reduced and truck fleets have to be directed from point A to point B as efficiently as possible. The days when you could do these things with the sole aid of a map, pen and paper are long gone. Instead, the market holds ready a large number of sophisticated transport management software solutions (TMS), all of which have their individual advantages and disadvantages.
The IT-responsible in a transport company then has to choose exactly that program whose strength is of highest relevance for the company. Thus, it is possible that the multilingualism of a software is extremely important for an internationally operating carrier while another company gives top priority to the optimisation of loading space.
inet-logistics GmbH with headquarters in Wolfurt has specialised in the development and marketing of standard software solutions for the so-called supply chain execution. The logistics-server®, which forms the centre of all processes, supports all modern technologies for the tracking of shipments and thanks to standardised software interfaces it can be integrated seamlessly into the already available IT-infrastructure of a company. Thus, it has been possible for some time now already to pinpoint in the control centre by means of GPS and mobile data services each vehicle of the company fleet with a deviation of only a few metres while RFID-chips are extremely helpful for the tracking of the shipments themselves and for the reconstruction of the transport chain.
