Uninterrupted monitoring of cool chains online

The uninterrupted monitoring of cool chains is of vital significance in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. By using appropriate sensors and RFID transponders, data can be logged throughout the whole production cycle and transmitted to central IT systems for evaluation.

(TIR transNews 02.2009) Previously, it had only been possible to evaluate data on temperature changes in retrospect, which meant that escalation management could not take place in real time. This is where innovative monitoring solutions come into play, with data being transmitted via GSM and/or SMS to a central IT application where it is evaluated and relayed to all the partners in the supply chain.

In classic manner, RFID checkpoints are established for cool chain monitoring where product liability limits are exceeded or goods are stored for lengthy periods. For this reason, many companies are looking at the possibility of introducing a software solution for supply chain execution. The information acquired in this way can be viewed by each partner in the supply chain via the internet.

Online monitoring

inet-logistics offers solutions for the challenges posed by uninterrupted online monitoring. Temperature-critical goods are monitored by means of RFID transponders with integrated sensors. At the point of despatch, the goods are logged at an RFID scanning station and the relevant information is transmitted to the central IT system via a GSM module. During transportation, variations in temperature are relayed to logistics-server®. Status information can also be transmitted so that temperature and transport data are combined. This means that unambiguous information is available for troubleshooting purposes.
